ReplyDeleteI am not sure I am sold on the idea of "unconditional love" but maybe it;s more "unconditional acceptance" I mean? Hm.mm...I mean, even God apparently does not unconditionally love (as in love being also an "action") in that we face consequences for whether we accept Christ or not and as such even the possibility of eternal separation. I think it goes to show that our actions and decisions DO indeed have an affect and eternal consequence even. Rather like, I am not going to continue to lvo eon someone who is say, my spouse if they beat my kids or tortures someone or something else equally horrendous. The love in action has to be withheld.
ReplyDeleteI hear you MMm. I wonder if perhaps your issue is more with the idea of unconditional acceptance of bad behavior? The love that I think of is the one that is patient and kind; does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. This kind of love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
