Yeah, I could not believe that Consumer Reports tests bacon as well as cars, washing machines and televisions.
That said, here is the bottom line result from their report on the heavenly food:
Kirkland Signature Regular tastes best. It’s sold as four 1-pound packages, so you may need to freeze some. ... Very good alternatives include Great Value Lower Sodium or, for thicker slices, Oscar Mayer Thick Cut. A higher price didn’t mean better bacon: The priciest product of all, Oscar Mayer Fully Cooked, rated lower than many others.I was disappointed that they did not test or recommend center cut bacon as it seems to be less fatty that other varieties. Anyone ever buy 4 pounds of Kirkland Signature Regular bacon at Costco? Is it really better than other brands?
We're lazy seniors, so I buy the "microwave" Kirkland bacon at Costco. When I bring it home I divide it up into smaller packages, and freeze all the one I keep in the refrigerator. They come out crisp and we like it.
ReplyDeleteIt just doesn't smell the same Wanda!
DeleteI don't know Bob...it smells pretty darn good to me. Of course you don't have the bacon grease to season other things with. My mom kept a coffee can on the stove for that!!
DeleteBut, the best bacon I've ever smelled was when we were camping...that was heavenly!
DeleteI remember saving bacon grease Wanda. I still like to drain the grease a bit and fry eggs in what remains. :)
DeleteHaven't bought their bacon but we do buy Hormel bacon at Costco. We like the pre-cooked bacon, just so easy to make!
ReplyDeleteI have tried that too Debby. Not bad but it does not have the fragrance of frying it up. ツ
DeletePlatter bacon at the local butcher ship. But the grease must be saved. In fact, sometimes the bacon is cooked primarily for the purpose of capturing the grease!
ReplyDeleteNothing like bacon grease to season green beans vanilla.
