When I was young I always enjoyed going to church on Palm Sunday. As I entered the church I was given a palm similar to one of those pictured here. There always seemed to be something joyful about that day. The story from the gospel of John:
The next day the great crowd that had come for the festival heard that Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem. They took palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting,
“Hosanna!
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord
Blessed is the king of Israel!”
Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, as it is written:
“Do not be afraid, Daughter Zion;
see, your king is coming, seated on a donkey’s colt.”
At first his disciples did not understand all this.
Singing and Hosannas, waving the palm branches... I to have memories of those Sundays.
ReplyDeleteToday, I will teach to my little 1-3rd grader of Palm Sunday and we will make palm branches from green consruction paper, and welcome the Savior in our imagination as we sing and wave our branches.. from generation to generation...that's our job.
Have a blessed Palm Sunday, and give my love to Ann.
