Letting Go
My life began to change about eight years ago when I began to let go of my controlling ways. In the middle of a great personal crisis I started making small steps to simply flow with life and not fight against it.
I still struggle in this area but am learning more each day to be content with the life, the health and the things that I have. Letting go of control has been a very healthy exercise.
A few quotes from people that seem to know a bit about letting go.
The key to change... is to let go of fear. -Rosanne Cash
When I let go of what I am, I become what I might be. -Lao Tzu
Courage is the power to let go of the familiar. -Raymond Lindquist
Open your arms to change, but don't let go of your values. -Dalai Lama
Sometimes you have to let go to see if there was anything worth holding on to. -Anonymous
We must let go of the life we have planned, so as to accept the one that is waiting for us. -Joseph Campbell

I so remember times in my lift when I had to let go...
ReplyDeleteThe one that comes to mind in when one of our daughters was on a road to self destruction, and I was hanging on to tight...and finally the Lord got the message through my thick head, to JUST LET GO of her, and let him WORK. He did, and she's proof of it.
I remember a sermon, I don't know who said it at metro, but the main point that I try to remember is that you can't receive with a closed hand. You must open your hands and let go to receive new.
ReplyDeleteAin't that the truth!

The key, which is harder said than done, is not only let go of self, but to reckon self crucified in Christ, Galatians 2:20. I think that is more difficult and yet far more beneficial than the temporary band aid of humanistic philosophers.

This is wonderful to read today. I'm in the middle (still! or again, depending on how you look at it) of unpacking and purging. I have no problem letting go of stuff... it's letting go of ideas that's hard. Notes with design ideas, snippets of stories. But I know that hanging on it preventing me from moving forward...
