Sometimes a story just seems too good to be true. Such is the case with this one. Really - a white Memphis deep-south blonde-haired mom reaching out to a large African American teenage boy? And not only reaching out but making him a part of her family? On what planet would anyone consider this story to be one based in fact? And yet.. in fact.. Leigh Anne and Sean Tuohy did just that.
I cheered.. I cried (several parts of the movie was so moving).. I rejoiced. This movie is a celebration of what is right with us. Leigh Anne Tuohy (played flawlessly by Sandra Bullock) elevated what it means to be a human being.
In this story Leigh Anne teaches us all what it means to love and care. The relationship between Michael Oher, that wonderful high schooler played by Quinton Aaron, was so heartwarming. Leigh Anne and her family welcomed this homeless teen into their home buying him clothes, furniture and anything he needed. His transition in the movie was simply wonderful. And football seemed to just be a byline in the story. I highly recommend this one. On a scale of 10 I give this movie ★★★★★★★★★☆

I really enjoyed that movie as well. It wasn't a cheesy "Christian" movie like some that have been made in recent years. I think the fact that it is a true story made it doable and believable.
ReplyDelete@co_heir - I so agree. The faith aspect was very subtle but very present in the way that they lived.
ReplyDeleteone of the few movies i enjoyed last year. worth seeing!
ReplyDeleteI, too saw this movie. I was moved and touched by it and so chose to watch it again. I think it portrayed the story well. It is so hard to "love, obey, comply, etc." in deed rather than words. It is so easy to say "I love my neighbor, or the homeless, or the orphan, or the widow;" but it is so much more difficult to become involved in their lives in such a sacrificial manner.
ReplyDeleteI loved the dialog when Leigh Anne told her friends that Michael was changing her life. I think that is the way that these things work.. we go on a short term mission to change others and we find that others change us.
ReplyDeleteI must rent it this weekend. I've heard nothing but wonderful raves like yours.
ReplyDeleteLove that movie

Rarely does a movie live up to the hype (in my mind anyway). This one definitely did. The only problem I had with it was some drama done for Hollywood. They made it look like Michael knew nothing about playing football when he started Michael Oher said that wasn't true. I guess it made for a better screenplay.
ReplyDeleteLeigh Anne Tuohy is a an amazing woman if she's anything like the way she was portrayed in the movie (and from all accounts, she is very close).
This is a case of real life being better than a story created in Hollywood. I'm glad someone recognized it and brought it to the screen.
We have this one at home and haven't had time to watch it, but look forward to it.
