Redneck Teleprompter

This is about the people, and it's bigger than any one king or queen of a Tea Party, and it's a lot bigger than any charismatic guy with a teleprompter.. -Sarah Palin speaking at the Tea Party Convention

  1. she could have used cue cards... but I think the issue is she criticized someone for doing the same thing. I just can't take here seriously

  2. Our old paster used notes in the palm of his hand almost every Sunday. He was fortunate not to have half of the congregation hating him and recording to see if they caught any imperfections.
One interesting thing about your palm, you can't misplace it. Also it does not require batteries or a crew to set it up.

  3. @grate - I hear you. Of course I imagine that your old pastor didn't take too many shots at preachers that used notes to teach from. My old pastor preached from a manuscript.. and I used Power Point when I was preaching.. nothing wrong with being prepared :)

  4. Redneck? Some would take that as a pejorative and some would take it as a compliment...which did you mean? :>)

  5. Ha! I saw this and couldn't believe it. I did that to cheat on tests in high school :)

  6. @David - me? pejorative? Maybe a bit snarky :)

@Barbara - I am shocked that a high schooler would do such a thing!

My blogger friend Shane posted about Sarah Palin's funny response to Palmgate - worth a look!

  7. She didn't refer to the notes during her speech; she looked at them only during a Q&A session. Why did she need notes to remember Energy and Tax Cuts? Worse is the fact that she had to edit her crib notes! Somebody must have reviewed her "palm" and reminded her that Tea Baggers would rather hear about Tax Cuts than Budget Cuts.

This woman is only a facade that reflects her audience.

  8. Wow, it amazes me at the animosity that people have for Sarah Palin. She was asked to be the Vice-Presidential candidate, she said yes and for that she has been demonized, criticized, treated disrespectfully, etc. like no other woman I've seen. What has she done that is SO wrong that she is treated like this? She has spoken the words that SO many of us feel about the direction of this country! As a woman, I am offended by the comments made about her. No woman should be treated like she has been. Kansas Bob - shameful; Joe - your use of the T.B. words is vulgar!!

  9. Thanks for the comment Beth. The shame in this story is the hypocrisy of a person who publicly blasts another person for using a public speaking aid (i.e. teleprompter) while that person uses a different kind of public speaking aid (i.e. notes and palm scribbles).

  10. I write on my hand when things call for it. I can't see how a palm note is the same as a telepromter. One keeps you on point the other keeps the words of your speach writer in your mouth.

  11. The idea that a teleprompter is any different than notes seems a stretch to me. Anyone can write the words on the notes or on the teleprompter.

One of the best sermon givers I have ever heard always used a manuscript and pretty much preached from it word for word.. but I never thought that someone else was putting ideas in his head.

IMO it is just style.. whether you are using a manuscript, Power Point, notes or a teleprompter.

  12. The shame is the attacks that have been on this woman (sometimes vulgar) and for what? That she stands up to her beliefs? That her beliefs are the antithesis of what is going on in this country and people must attack her in everyway, including her family or that she scribbles a few notes on her hand? My question is why the animosity against her -- I don't get it! This is the question I'd like answered. By the way, there is hypocrisy on all sides!

  13. I understand what you are saying Beth and agree that the hypocrisy is not limited to one side. Interesting the way that you have painted this issue of hypocrisy as an "attack".. perhaps any criticism of a politician's hypocrisy is viewed as an "attack" by some on the extreme right or left?
