Funny J.D. Salinger

The wiki tells us that Jerome David "J. D." Salinger (born on January 1, 1919) is an American author, best known for his 1951 novel The Catcher in the Rye, as well as his reclusive nature. He has not published an original work since 1965 and has not been interviewed since 1980. Here are a few funny things that are attributed to him:

All morons hate it when you call them a moron.

I'm quite illiterate, but I read a lot.

Mothers are all slightly insane.

I don't exactly know what I mean by that, but I mean it.

How long should a man's legs be? Long enough to touch the ground.

I am a kind of paranoid in reverse. I suspect people of plotting to make me happy.

They didn't act like people and they didn't act like actors. It's hard to explain. They acted more like they knew they were celebrities and all. I mean they were good, but they were too good.

  1. Oh, these are outstanding. I hadn't heard of any of these; numbers 4 and 7 are my new personal favorites.

  2. Another one of my favorites wasn't spoken by Salinger, but by Norm McDonald on Saturday Night Live. Back in the 1990s, when it was rumored that Salinger was publishing his first book in 34 years, called "Hapworth 16, 1924," McDonald did a bit about it on the Weekend Update segment. McDonald announced that the book was being published, and said that when reached for comment and asked why he was publishing again, Salinger replied, "Get the hell off my lawn!"
