Dan in Real Life | ★★★★★★★

Last night Ann and I watched this really great flick about a widowed father of three young girls. I found the movie to be a genuine portrayal of immediate and extended family life and interactions. The reactions of Dan's girls were spot on.. I can remember having some of those "why can't I" conversations.. it was pretty believable. The other thing I liked is the way that Dan was portrayed as a sensitive and caring family man who was completely caught off guard by love. That said I do think about 10 minutes could have been cut from the story but.. if you are looking for a flick with a pretty good story and acting.. I recommend this one to you. On a scale of 10 I give this movie ★★★★★★★

  1. I too liked the film for all the reasons you stated. I was reluctant to see this film at first because I am not a big fan of Steve Carell. But, to his credit he did a great job. I just wish he would pick more roles like this one to build up his portfolio. I think it would be a long term wise career move...

  2. Bill.. I had that same reaction about Carell.. he is a pretty good actor and seemingly can do more than Michael Scott type of roles.

  3. Carell is one of several current comedian/actors who I love in certain roles, but have little desire to see in others. Loved Will Ferrel in Stranger Than Fiction and Elf, not so much in other films. Jim Carrey was great in Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless mind, The Majestic, and Liar, Liar was the perfect platform for his overly zany side, but most of his other films are entertaining at best. Adam Sandler is someone who I enjoy in romantic comedies like 50 First Dates and The Wedding Singer, and I loved him in Reign Over Me with Don Cheadle, but most of his regular comedies annoy me.

Unfortunately I think the lower brow stuff makes more money.

  4. Oh, and for those not on Facebook. Here is my comment from there: "I love when they sing Let My Love Open The Door. The extras on the DVD are great, especially the parts about the music."

  10. I own Into The Wild on Blu-ray, saw it in the theater, loved it, read the book and pre-ordered the movie as soon as it was available. You should also check out the documentary Call of The Wild.
