Grocery Shopping

Since Ann's recent disability I have taken on the grocery shopping duties. I can really relate to the list thing shown in this cartoon.. we keep one on the refrigerator and add to it during the week.. and I have almost lost the list on several occasions. Fortunately for our family I have a cell phone.. I call my wife from the store at least three times.. sometimes asking for clarification and often just getting her advice

How about you? Who does the grocery shopping at your place? Do you use a list? Ever have to phone home from the store? Any tips to share? Inquiring minds want to know.

  1. I do the grocery shopping, which isn't that often, because most of our things are fresh things that our house help brings with her from the market. But on the occasion that I send Maika to the store, he calls me AT LEAST six times. And usually he is getting no more than five items. ha ha! I laugh hard always during these times. hee hee! Glad to know its not only him that can't make the decision on his own! He always says, "But then you'll get mad that I brought the wrong thing!" ha!

  2. I only send my husband shopping as a last resort (if I'm sick or something)I don't get it -- he seems to have a recognition problem with basic grocery items! :-) Most of the time I shop without a list and try to keep a mental note of basics that need replacing (since I like to replace things before they run out, that gives me 2 or 3 goes to remember. When it comes towhat we're going to eat for the next few days, i tend to make it up on the spot when i see what's available -- since i tend to make up my own recipes a lot of the time, that actually works quite well, I tend to go shopping 2-3 times a week because we really like eating fresh stuff.

  3. Yes to all of the above. Hubby hates to shop and will only do so under duress. I would be lost without my list. Without it I would buy what I really don't need and forget what I do.

  4. My wife does the shopping but I will occasionally pick up a few things. Mostly it's the milk on the way home kind of stuff that's no big deal. Sometimes she sends me out with a specific list and that's when I get out the cell phone. It's things that come in multiple varieties or sizes that trip me up. 10 oz or 16 oz or 24 oz? Traditional, chunky or homestyle? Dole, Campbell's or store brand?

It's the times I assume that I know that I get in trouble.

  5. When my wife shopped she made several visit a week to the store as she liked to be a bit more spontaneous.. I generally go once a week.. a bit more methodical.. unless we run out of milk :)
