Gmail Goggles

According to a Wired article titled Google’s Mail Goggles Prevents Drunk Emailing:

Google released a useful new Gmail feature yesterday in its labs, which could help prevent the intoxicated from sending embarrassing late-night emails they might regret in the morning.

When activated, the program will force a user to solve a series of math problems before allowing any message to be sent.

They are not terribly difficult, but do serve as an extra line of defense in what can be a very dangerous habit.

The service is set by default to kick in only on weekend nights, but you can change the settings to apply whenever.

As for drunk dialing and texting, you’re still on your own.
I had to chuckle about this one. I have never sent an email while intoxicated but I sure have sent a few that I wish I could take back.

How about you? Have you ever got drunk, angry or upset and sent an email you wish you could have back?

  1. Ha! I don't know that I could even do this sober. :D

I've got quite a large "draft" folder in my email account. I'm not typically a rapid-fire send type, but there are certainly emails, posts, comments I wish I'd taken more time to consider first. I think you might've witnessed a few, KB. :)

  2. Well, I've never been drunk, and I'm not the sort of person who fires off when I get angry. The more upset I get, the more careful and deliberate I get. That happens in real life too, whne I get upset I get very quiet and careful, probably has something to do with growing up with a scary, rage-filled father. The emails ( and remarks) that I regret were the ones where the other person misunderstood my sense of humour. That's the thing that's got me into trouble ..

  4. OOps, forgot to read the post!

Yes, I have sent an email under all those circumstances and regretted it and have received a few from a drunk friend proclaiming his love for me, which he forgot the next day. Oh well.

I have only been drunk twice in the last 19 years and darn it I emailed both times.
