My Beautiful Mommy

This picture is from a new picture book coming out on April 28 aimed at helping kids understand plastic surgery - it’s titled “My Beautiful Mommy.”

Regardless of how you feel about plastic surgery, what do you think about this idea? Do young kids really need to know about a tummy tuck? How would you explain a nose job to a young child? Questions you never thought you'd need to ask :)

  1. I find it rather peculiar that the plastic surgeon looks quite a bit like Superman. {c;

  2. I find it kind of disturbing... especially in terms of the gender pressures on women and the message that their worth comes from their appearance. Not a message I would want my daughter to be taught.

  3. I did a post on the same thing! I think its yet another case of sending messages to young girls that they need to look perfect or they aren't "good enough"

  5. Wouldn't it be okay to tell a child that "Mommy's nose needed a little fixing so it would work better?" While I'm horrified at the amount of plastic surgery being glorified by celebrities, I also understand that if you have a nose that enters the room 1.5 seconds before you do, you might want a little work done, and kids should understand that Mommy's not sick, she just needs her nose fixed a little?

    Would that work?

  6. I find this creepy. My youngest son complained a few years ago about his nose. He thought it way too big. He has a strong, Greek soldier face...right off an ancient bust...I told him that I thought his nose was awesomely wonderful, BUT if he wanted something done, we'd make it happen. It's not the nose, or the wrinkles, or whatever: it's the perception.
    He hasn't complained since.
