Baclofen Pump

For several years my wife Ann has taken Baclofen, a drug that counteracts muscle spasticity. Last year the doctor maxed out the dosage. The side effect of this action was extreme drowsiness.. Ann has a difficult time just staying awake.

On Wednesday she was tested for an internal Baclofen pump. The idea of the pump is that the drug is delivered directly to the spine which increases the drugs' effects and lessens that side effects. Ann qualified for the pump and it looks like she will have the pump some time in April.

My purpose in writing is two-fold.. educational and inspirational.. I hope to inspire you all to learn more and to pray for Ann and others who battle Multiple Sclerosis and other autoimmune diseases.

  1. That's really good news (that she qualified)! It sounds like that pump will help quite a bit. Thanks for telling us about it, and as always, prayer will be heading your way. :)

  6. Bob, I am praying this surgery brings physical relief and comfort to Ann. How soon might she be able to return home after the procedure?

  7. Thanks Missy! Looks like it may take a few days to regulate the dosage in physical therapy - so Ann should be home by Fridaynext week or sooner.

  8. Ann’s surgery on Tuesday went well and she is recovery at the hospital today. On Friday she is scheduled to be transferred to the rehab unit at the hospital where she will stay for the next week or two. At rehab they will be able to adjust the pump to fit to Ann’s lifestyle as well as getting her more therapy. Thank you all for your love and prayers.

  10. Ann began to have problems yesterday with speech and with coordination of her right hand. The doctors are evaluating. Please pray for healing for Ann and wisdom for the doctors - and strength and wisdom for me.

    Thanks much, Bob
