Gilbert Keith Chesterton (1874-1936) was an influential English writer of the early 20th century. His prolific and diverse output included journalism, philosophy, poetry, biography, Christian apologetics, fantasy, and detective fiction. Here are a few quotes from him that I like:
Why be something to everybody when you can be everything to somebody?
The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him.
The riddles of God are more satisfying than the solutions of man.
These are the days when the Christian is expected to praise every creed except his own.
There are those who hate Christianity and call their hatred an all-embracing love for all religions.
Once abolish the God, and the government becomes the God.
If there were no God, there would be no Atheists.
The Declaration of Independence dogmatically bases all rights on the fact that God created all men equal; and it is right; for if they were not created equal, they were certainly evolved unequal. There is no basis for democracy except in a dogma about the divine origin of man.
Great quotes. A favourite site of mine for Chesterton tid-bits is The Hebdomadal Chesterton. You might enjoy it as well.
