This article talks about Bibles with the words of Christ printed in red. It got me to wondering if I really liked the idea or not. Sometimes things like this become institutionalized over time and we, taking them for granted, don't question their influence or value in our lives.Good and bad habits fall into this category as well as theology and other kinds of thinking. I think that it is often wise to reevaluate these types of things questioning when we embraced them and why we still hold them so dearly.. not that I plan to get rid of my red letter editions J

I was just talking with a friend the other day about the headings before chapters in the Bible and how some of them are inappropriate and some are theologically loaded. It takes too much white-out to get rid of them though so I guess I'll just let it slide :)
ReplyDeletei thought it was used simply to indicate words that jesus actually spoke (according to the author/s). Can't really see what's wrong with it
ReplyDeleteI was a young child when I first noticed the red letters. We were in church, and I asked my mom what they meant. After she whispered, "That's the words Jesus said," I looked at her black letter Bible and replied, "He didn't say nuthin' in yours!"
