Here is a brief review from my good friend Kirk:I'd say it was a bit disappointing. I found myself ffwd'ing through some parts and in the end, wish I'd just watched Saving Private Ryan again. No knocking Clint Eastwood because he is an amazing talent.
Anyone else seen this one? I'd be interested in hearing your opinion.
I haven't seen it yet, but one of the knocks on "Letters from Iwo Jima" (which folks are saying will prevent it from getting the best picture Oscar) that I've seen is that it came on the heels of "Flags," and that it wasn't as successful at the box office. Friends have seen it and say it's a remarkable movie; it's an intriguing set of films to me -- two sides of the same coin.
