Formula Movies
Chad's post about Will Ferrel's movies caused me to think about other movies that are formula based. Most notably are the 007 Movies ... all begin with a the single shot and blood, move to the prequel, the theme song, mission assignment, gadgets with Q, a bunch of action, Bond girls and triumphs over the bad guys. Other formula movies I can think of are the Indiana Jones and the Back to the Future ones. On TV CSI (all of them), Columbo and lawyer shows definitely have a formula. And for both genres you have the Mission Impossible shows/movies. I know there are more that I am not remembering. Any that stand out in your mind?

None come to mind but I can see Peter Graves and HEAR the theme to MI in my mind....I loved that show.
ReplyDeleteHmmm...
ReplyDeleteStar Wars: opening battle sequence; discovering what the mission is; more fighting in the middle; realizing there's more that needs to be done/death of major character; triumphant ending.
Jaws: shark shows up and eats; people realize, "Oh, geez! There's a shark!"; hero's kids go missing; kids are found; shark killed.
Indiana Jones: find a secondary relic at great risk to life; get called on to find better relic; fight Nazis; find relic; discover inner strength and wisdom; credits roll.
I'll stop there; I'm sure there are lots more.

Hey Bob,
ReplyDeleteI'm not against good formulas, I don't think. I got a kick out of Rocky 6's formula, in fact.
But, the link to the original post is not working. And I don't know which blog is Chad's.
Thanks CP, I fixed the link. Rocky - now that is a formula I like :)
